Entrepreneurship Honor Society Induction
University of Scranton students inducted into Sigma Nu Tau, the honor society for entrepreneurship. The honor society is open to entrepreneurship majors and minors who have achieved junior class standing, have a GPA of at least 3.2 and strong entrepreneurial spirit, honor and integrity. The University's chapter of the honor society was established in 2017.

Women's Business Honor Society Induction
University of Scranton students inducted into Omega Beta Sigma, the women's business honor society. Induction is open to students who major or minor in business, have at least sophomore academic standing, and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. The University's honor society was established in 1982.

Counseling Honor Society Induction
University of Scranton students inducted into Chi Delta Rho, the University's chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for counseling. The international honor society was established in 1985 to recognize outstanding achievement and service within the profession of counseling. The University's chapter of the honor society was established in 1994.

A total of 12,594 students enrolled during the 2017 fall semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). A total of 1,555 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Fall 2017 semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean's List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

Wilkes University Students Inducted Into Tri Beta National Biological Honor Society
Wilkes University inducted 15 students as full members into the Theta Delta Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta national biological honor society during an induction ceremony held during the fall 2017 semester. An additional 12 students were inducted as associate members. Full members are juniors or seniors who have completed at least 16 credits in biology with at least a 3.25 grade point average and a 3.0 overall GPA. Associate members are sophomores and juniors who have completed fewer than 16 biology credits with at least a 3.25 grade point average and a 3.0 overall GPA. Beta Beta Beta was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and his students. The idea of an honor society and professional society for biology students spread and by 1925 the society became a national organization. The Theta Delta Chapter was installed at Wilkes in 2001.

As first-year students embark on their college experience, they will all take part in Loyola's living learning program, Messina. The common text for Messina is Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson. The book, a compelling first-hand account of a lawyer who defends the poor and wrongly condemned, speaks to the inequality in the justice system.

Royal Experience Recipients Receive Aid with Summer Internships
The Royal Experience Summer Internship Program provides 16 University of Scranton students, selected from a competitive pool, a stipend of up to $4,000 to ease the burden of accepting a meaningful unpaid internship. The program is funded by the philanthropy of the University's Parents' Executive Council and the donations of alumni and friends of the University.

President's Fellowships for Summer Research
Seven undergraduate students are granted President's Fellowships for Summer Research in 2017. The fellowships, administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, offer each student the chance to partner with a faculty mentor to complete a research project during the summer. Each project was proposed and designed by the student and their faculty mentor.
